Moretonhampstead, Dartmoor National Park.
The churchyard. Moretonhampstead, gateway to the moors located in the centre of Devon and on the edge of Dartmoor National Park, is an ancient market town with some great history going back a 1000 years to Saxon times. The village boasts a music day, a carnival in August, its own Green Hill Arts Gallery, a miniature pony centre and even a motor museum.

Higgar Tor is both an ancient hill fort and a modern home to Park lovers. Seen from the air here, it shows its steep gritstone colours and some of the deceptively steep climbing lines beckon to a good knuckle rasping in gym shoes.

Curbar wasn’t on route, but I have been running along the top of this outstanding natural beauty for over 30 years. Having lived underneath Curbar and Froggatt in Grindleford for over 20 years, I have run along Curbar on every day of the year at some point. This includes New Years Eve, Xmas Day and even the night before my wedding. Curbar Edge is wonderful and I have spent so much time along there running, jogging, cycling, walking, flying and even on occasions even climbing.

Leaving home, the first mile is Stanage. This gritstone playground, just next door to Sheffield and four miles long, is probably the longest developed climbing crag in the world, but certainly one of the most loved by people who climb with lots of spare skin on their finger tips!
